LUMU 101: FLASH COLOR

As we learned in the previous blog, flash can be a very useful tool, not just technically to increase the quantity of light but also creatively, to amplify its quality.
In order to achieve proper color temperature in a given enviroment, the photographer must understand the ingredients that affect color.

To learn more additional information about color temperature in general, read our Color Temperature blog

SO, WHEN TO MEASURE FLASH COLOR?

When you are using one individual flash, the camera needs to establish only a single, consistent lightsource to measure white balance. But today we mostly shoot in RAW, meaning that we capture enough light information, that it can easily be adjusted in post production.

But that statement isn't quite true if we are using multiple lightsources. Whether you’re working in any combination of natural light, flash, studio lights etc, you’re exposed to much too many variables - and there is no reliable camera setting that considers all these factors.

LUMU & FLASH COLOR

With Lumu you can quickly read your flashes temperature or simultaneously measure color temperatures of both your flash and ambient light. If additional color filters are needed to achieve even results, Lumu lets you know which one (or two) to apply. All with a tap of a button.

JOB WELL DONE.

If you are up for a challenge, try to put you flash photography skills to the test and participate in our monthly Instagram challenge. This week’s title is LUMU IN A FLASH. Using your flash, try freezing a meaningful moment and share your best captures on Instagram, using #lumuflash. If you need any additional help on how exactly you do that, you can read our previous blog about Photo Flash. A few lucky contestants will be featured here on the blog and on our feed on Instagram.
Happy capturing!

Here at Lumu, our goal is to reduce that gap between your creative vision and a wholesome final product. With that in mind, we’re launching a new segment of the Lumu experience on all of our social platforms - Lumu 101. Each week we’ll provide beginners and professionals with tips on how to improve and become the master of your Lumu app, and take your skills to the next level. Until next time.
